WatchPAT One Review: The Gold Standard for Disposable Home Sleep Apnea Testing
The WatchPAT One by ZOLL (formerly Itamar Medical) represents a significant shift in home sleep apnea testing (HSAT). Unlike traditional Type III devices that rely on bulky belts and uncomfortable nasal cannulas, the WatchPAT One utilizes Peripheral Arterial Tone (PAT) technology. This methodology measures arterial volume changes at the fingertip to reflect sympathetic nervous system activity associated with respiratory events. Our clinical evaluation highlights its high correlation with gold-standard polysomnography (PSG), particularly in detecting Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). The device is entirely disposable, eliminating the logistical burden of cleaning, recharging, and returning equipment, making it a preferred choice for both clinicians and patients who value hygiene and convenience.
